When working with Snapchat campaigns in Whathead, you’ll interact with two key resources: ad accounts (where your campaigns live) and the media library (where your creative assets are stored).

Ad Account Selection

Every Snapchat campaign must be associated with an ad account. The ad account determines billing, permissions, and where your campaigns are published.

Selecting an Ad Account

When you create a new campaign in Whathead:
1

Choose Platform

Select Snapchat as your platform when creating a campaign node.
2

Select Ad Account

From the ad account dropdown, choose which account to use. You’ll see all accounts you have access to through your connected organization.
3

Confirm Selection

The selected ad account will be used for all campaigns in this canvas unless you change it.

Ad Account Information

For each ad account, you can view:
  • Account Name: The name assigned in Snapchat Ads Manager
  • Account ID: The unique identifier for the account
  • Currency: The currency used for billing (cannot be changed)
  • Time Zone: The time zone for reporting and scheduling
  • Status: Whether the account is active, disabled, or has restrictions
You cannot change an ad account’s currency or time zone after it’s created. Make sure you select the correct account for your region and billing needs.

Switching Between Ad Accounts

To use a different ad account:
  1. Create a new campaign node on the canvas
  2. Select the different ad account from the dropdown
  3. Build your campaign structure under the new node
You can have multiple campaigns using different ad accounts on the same canvas.
You cannot move campaigns between ad accounts after publishing. If you need to use a different account, you’ll need to duplicate the campaign and publish it to the new account.

Media Library Access

Snapchat’s media library stores all creative assets (images and videos) you’ve uploaded to your ad account. Whathead gives you access to this library when creating ads.

Browsing the Media Library

When you add creative to an ad:
1

Open Creative Selector

In the ad node, click Add Creative or Select Image/Video.
2

Choose Source

Select Media Library to browse existing assets, or Upload New to add new files.
3

Browse Assets

You’ll see all images and videos in your Snapchat media library, organized by upload date.
4

Filter and Search

Use filters to narrow by:
  • File type (image or video)
  • Upload date
  • Dimensions
  • File name
5

Select Asset

Click on an asset to select it for your ad. You’ll see a preview and technical details.

Asset Details

For each asset in the media library, you can view:
DetailDescription
ThumbnailPreview of the image or video
DimensionsWidth × height in pixels
File SizeSize in MB
FormatFile type (JPG, PNG, MP4, etc.)
Upload DateWhen the asset was added to the library
Media IDUnique identifier used by Snapchat

Uploading New Assets

You can upload assets directly from Whathead:
1

Click Upload New

In the creative selector, choose Upload New instead of browsing the library.
2

Select Files

Choose one or more files from your computer. You can upload multiple assets at once.
3

Wait for Upload

Whathead will upload the files to Snapchat’s media library. This may take a few moments for large files or videos.
4

Confirm Upload

Once uploaded, the assets will appear in your media library and be automatically selected for your ad.
Upload assets to your media library in advance to speed up campaign creation. You can reuse the same assets across multiple campaigns and ads.

Asset Requirements

Snapchat has specific requirements for creative assets:

Image Requirements

RequirementSpecification
FormatJPG or PNG
Max File Size5 MB
Min Resolution1080 × 1920 pixels (vertical)
Recommended Ratio9:16 (vertical)
Aspect Ratio Range9:16 to 1:1

Video Requirements

RequirementSpecification
FormatMP4 or MOV
Max File Size1 GB
Duration3 seconds to 3 minutes
Min Resolution1080 × 1920 pixels (vertical)
Recommended Ratio9:16 (vertical)
Frame Rate30 fps recommended
AudioOptional but recommended
Assets that don’t meet Snapchat’s requirements will be rejected during upload. Snapchat strongly recommends vertical video (9:16) for optimal user experience on mobile devices.

Asset Reuse and Management

Reusing Assets Across Campaigns

Once an asset is in your media library, you can use it in multiple campaigns and ads:
  • The same image or video can be used in different ad squads
  • Assets can be shared across campaigns in the same ad account
  • You don’t need to upload the same file multiple times

Organizing Assets

To keep your media library organized:
  • Use descriptive file names before uploading
  • Upload assets in batches for specific campaigns
  • Regularly review and remove unused assets
  • Consider creating separate ad accounts for different brands or clients

Asset Permissions

Asset access is tied to ad account permissions:
  • You can only access assets in ad accounts you have permission to use
  • Assets uploaded to one ad account are not visible in other accounts
  • If you lose access to an ad account, you’ll lose access to its media library

Bulk Media Upload

For large-scale campaigns, you can upload multiple assets at once:
1

Go to Media Library

Navigate to Assets > Media Library in Whathead.
2

Select Ad Account

Choose which Snapchat ad account to upload to.
3

Upload Multiple Files

Drag and drop multiple files, or click Select Files to choose from your computer.
4

Monitor Progress

You’ll see upload progress for each file. Large files or videos may take several minutes.
5

Review Results

Once complete, you’ll see which files uploaded successfully and which failed validation.
Use bulk media upload to prepare assets for multiple campaigns at once. This is especially useful when launching seasonal campaigns or managing multiple clients.

Snapchat-Specific Asset Features

Media Copy API

Snapchat supports Media Copy API for eligible assets, which allows faster creative migration:
  • Assets that meet eligibility criteria can be copied between ad accounts
  • This is faster than re-uploading assets
  • Whathead automatically checks eligibility and uses Media Copy when available
Media Copy eligibility is determined by Snapchat based on asset format, size, and account permissions. Not all assets are eligible for Media Copy.

Creative Update Limitations

Important: Snapchat does NOT allow updating creative assets on existing ads. When you change creative content on an existing ad:
  1. Snapchat creates a new ad with the new creative
  2. The original ad is automatically paused
  3. The new ad receives a new ad ID
This is a Snapchat platform limitation, not a Whathead limitation. Plan your creative strategy accordingly.

Vertical Format Optimization

Snapchat is optimized for vertical mobile viewing:
  • 9:16 aspect ratio performs best
  • Full-screen vertical videos have higher engagement
  • Square (1:1) assets are supported but may not fill the screen
  • Horizontal assets are not recommended for Snapchat
Create vertical-first creative for Snapchat campaigns. If you’re transferring campaigns from other platforms, consider creating new vertical assets for optimal performance.
